About

Kea Mathis

Since 2016, Kea Mathis has been the Family Engagement Organizer at Detroit People's Platform (DPP). DPP strives to improve the policies that support vital services such as affordable housing, quality affordable childcare, and equitable public transportation in order to preserve and ensure a quality way of life for all Detroiters.

Kea is also DPP’s statewide lead in three key coalition spaces–the Economic Justice Alliance of Michigan, the Michigan State Voices and DPP’s organizing work with the Right To The City Alliance. Additionally,   she supports the leadership development of the Platform’s members through training and leadership opportunities.

She says, “What’s underneath the push, my drive? Personally, I believe that using my voice as a tool is core in the process of effecting change. Therefore, I aspire to influence change throughout my life in every role. My role as a Black Woman, a Parent, an Organizer, a Partner, and a Neighbor.”

As an organizer, Kea’s focus is on bringing the voices and participation of the households who benefit from having adequately funded and functioning systems. Through organizing efforts, Detroit People’s Platform’s housing team has eight community partners, 10 leaders, and 227 supporters as of 2022.
